Low self-esteem can cause a lot of complications. A lot of complications can be caused by low self esteem - both emotionally and physically - if not treated. The list below shows low self esteem symptoms that can put your health at risk.
Depression - This is the first thing that happens when a person suffers from low self-esteem. They just feel inconsequential, which detaches them from loved ones. Separation only pushes them to think badly about themselves, this only causes depression to go deeper. In very severe cases, some resort to suicide.
Anxiety - Low self-esteem causes folk to have very little confidence in themselves, which can lead to fear and panic attacks when confronted with a situation they do not want to be part of.
Stress - Stress is a part of everyone’s lives, but it can seem enhanced for someone who’s experiencing low self-esteem. They’re very unlikely to try to escape some of their stress, which in turn causes their anxiety to build.
Weight Gain – People often turn to food when suffering from low self esteem. This can result in them piling on weight to the point of being obese. Piling on too much weight can cause heart problems, diabetes, and a lot of other illnesses.
Weight Loss - Where some people put on weight, others either binge and purge their food or alternatively starve themselves, believing they will gain a more satisfying appearance. But, they never reach the level where they are satisfied with their appearance and they become very sick, to a point where they have to get professional help.
Addictions - Low self esteem sufferers can end up being addicted to street drugs or prescription medicines. They get high on these drugs and live briefly in a totally different world where they have no cares and no problems. Unfortunately they can end up brain damaged or dead if the addiction isn’t dealt with early on.
Alcohol abuse - Some turn to consuming alcohol to try to erase their problems and feel better about themselves. Alcohol becomes their best friend because it provides them the confidence they so desperately seek, but have never found. It makes them feel almost invincible and they do things they wouldn’t ordinarily have the courage to do. Alcohol becomes an addiction and then gradually, the abuse of it can lead to liver problems, heart disease and even contribute to the development of cancer.
