Just about everybody struggles with his or her weight at least a couple of times during his (or her) lifetime. Sometimes a weight gain can be blamed on hormonal disorders or other health problems that keep the body from burning fat. Other times it can be blamed on a person directly.

Probably not. The fact is that weight loss is something that cannot be accomplished through fad diets alone. "Weight loss" simply reduces down to a matter of numbers. It is simple math. Addition and subtraction. In order to lose weight (subtraction) you need to burn more calories than you bring in. It's easy to get overwhelmed by it because each food carries differently weighted calories. Remember-you want to take in calories that your body can use instead of just storing them.

Because of the negative connotation the word "diet" now is has, quit using the word "diet" in relation to your new eating habits. Instead, call it "making healthy choices" or something like that. Using the word "diet" often feels negative. You are far more likely to resent your new eating habits if you call them "dieting" than if you call them "making healthier choices" or "eating organically." Instead of using negative images to describe your new eating habits you positive and action based words for your descriptions. This will make you feel more proactive and you will have an easier time describing your efforts to people who might be wondering why you are suddenly eating different things (or not eating as often).

 

Track your food intake for a while in a journal. Even though it sounds like a bunch of extra work, it can really help in the long run.

The idea behind the food journal is not to count every single calorie that you consume (though that can be very helpful when you need to plan a workout). Keeping a food journal can also help you track your cravings and the types of tastes you gravitate toward. This is how you make your diet successful: you replace junk foods with healthy foods that have the same basic taste as the junkier stuff you crave. Eating some real (and fresh) strawberries instead of reaching for strawberry flavored candy or strawberry ice cream is a good example of this. Keeping a food journal helps you accomplish this which increases the chances of your diet being a success.

 

Everybody is worried about weight loss. Think about it: how many people do you know that are on a diet right now? How many of the people that you know are unhappy with their weight? That should show you that you aren't alone when you worry about how much you weigh. It is important that you approach your weight loss the smart way.
